Candidate statement from Paul Eeles for FAB Chair (to be formally elected at AGM on 20 October 2016)
Nominated by Fiona Ballantine Dykes, CPCAB and FAB Chair and David Grailey, NCFE and FAB Vice Chair
I am the Chief Executive of the newly formed Skills and Education Group, which consists of two national awarding organisations, ABC Awards and ASDAN, as well as emfec, a membership body for colleges. Prior to becoming the Chief Executive of the Skills and Education Group, I was Chief Executive of the emfec group, which included ABC Awards and emfec, assuming full responsibility for ABC Awards in April 2012. During the last four years I and my team have grown ABC Awards into a respected, national awarding organisation, which develops high quality qualifications for employers like the Saville Row Bespoke Association and many others.
I am deeply passionate about the sector that I work within and I am a champion of vocational education. It is that passion which led me to join the Board of the Federation of Awarding Bodies back in March 2014, first as a Co-opted Member, and then as an elected Member of the Board in October 2014. I now wish to build on that experience and put myself forward to stand as the next Chair of the Federation of Awarding Bodies.
Our awarding sector is facing a period of uncertainty and we need a strong voice to speak up and speak out and I believe I can support FAB to be that voice, should you choose to elect me as your Chair. We need to be working with government in the implementation of the apprenticeship reforms and the Post-16 Skills Plan, sharing our concerns and using our expertise in awarding and assessment, to ensure that the validity of the qualifications, standards and frameworks, which our customers deliver to learners and employers daily, remains valued and of the highest quality. I believe that we are stronger, when we are together and that is why I believe the Federation of Awarding Bodies should be the voice which campaigns on our behalf. If I am elected as your Chair, I pledge to work with the fantastic team of officers at the Federation of Awarding Bodies, and you as the members, to create the first ever All Party Parliamentary Group for Awarding and Qualifications, to ensure that our voices are heard and that our sector is represented, when it comes to the formation of policy that impacts upon us as a sector.
