Summary of the Role
We are recruiting for two independent panel members to be part of our Awarding Organisation (AO) Appeals Committee. The Appeals Committee will meet when required if the centre co-ordinator and/or learner remains dissatisfied with the outcome of the preliminary appeal by Safety Training Awards. There are three different areas of appeals that may be reviewed by the committee, they are as follows:
The Appeal Committee Hearing
The appeal hearing will take the form of a re-examination of the evidence, comments and reports provided to and by Safety Training Awards, and observations presented by the appellant.
An appeal concerning an enquiry about results, the test applied by the committee will be whether Safety Training Awards:
a) has used procedures that were consistent with regulatory requirements;
b) has applied its procedures properly and fairly in arriving at judgements;
An appeal related to malpractice or maladministration, the committee will consider, on the balance of probabilities, whether there was sufficient evidence to support the findings of malpractice and how appropriate the original sanctions were in light of Safety Training Awards malpractice and maladministration policy, sanctions policy and any additional information provided by the appellant or Safety Training Awards.
An appeal focusing on access arrangements or special consideration, the committee will consider whether Safety Training Awards actions were consistent with the published procedures and were fair.
It is essential that the committee members have experience within the education sector and have a good understanding and/or knowledge of how appeals procedures should operate effectively within an organisation. Experience, understanding and/or knowledge of the General Conditions of Recognition and the Regulatory Principles are desirable for this post.
