Summary of the role

Our team has a wealth of awarding organisation experience, which we have used to create innovative systems and processes which respond to our customer’s needs.  Most importantly, we have genuine partnerships with all of our customers, providing a level of support unique to the sector.

We are currently seeking suitably qualified Writers / Reviewers for the Reformed Functional Skills Maths Levels 1 and 2. If you have significant, proven and recent experience delivering / teaching Functional Skills Maths and hold Maths qualifications higher than the specified levels i.e. level 3 or above and would relish the idea of working with a friendly and innovative awarding organisation, we would love to hear from you.

It is essential you have a thorough understanding of the Reformed Functional Skills qualifications and have significant, proven and recent experience delivering / teaching Functional Skills Maths and hold Maths qualifications higher than the specified levels i.e. level 3 or above.

The main duties and responsibilities are:

  • Produce question papers and mark schemes for Functional Skills Maths Level 1 and / or 2 at the specified level in line with:

  • Skillsfirst Awards guidelines, policies and procedures

  • Skillsfirst Awards qualification and assessment specification requirements

  • Skillsfirst Awards assessment schedules

  • DfE subject content

  • Ofqual’s General Conditions of Recognition; Functional Skills Mathematics Conditions and Requirements

  • Submit question papers and mark schemes in the required format

  • Submit question papers and mark schemes within the agreed timescales

  • To carry out amendments in line with feedback from the Senior Examiner and or the Reviewer

  • Provide additional assessment content as required, including document/image sources and details of copyright permission, as required

  • Attend meetings as required (normally at Skillsfirst offices in Birmingham) for training, standardisation, paper approval purposes ideally in-person, or where applicable remotely via teleconference facilities

  • Liaise with the Senior Examiner, Reviewer, Skillsfirst Awards, AO Consortium partners

  • Have access to a personal PC/laptop with a secure and reliable internet connection

 Applicants will be required to demonstrate they:

  • Hold Mathematics qualifications higher than the specified level i.e. level 3 or above

  • Have significant, proven and recent experience delivering/teaching Functional Skills Maths

  • Ideally have experience of writing and/or reviewing assessment papers and mark schemes for Functional Skills Maths, or related qualifications in Maths (short answer and scenario-based questions)

  • Have proven occupational competence

  • Knowledge of the Functional Skills reform agenda

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

  • Excellent attention to detail

  • Ability to work accurately and consistently

  • Ability to work to agreed timescales

  • Ability to utilise IT software applications, including Microsoft Office, email and adobe acrobat reader

This role will require some travel for training, standardisation, paper approval purposes, ideally in person, or where applicable remotely via teleconference facilities.

The positions are on a self-employed basis, with annual renewable contracts.
