Summary of the role

The British Safety Council is an expert advocate of workplace health, safety and environmental management.  We work with over 5,500 organisations across all sectors in the UK and internationally to make workplaces healthier and safer for everyone. The British Safety Council is the only UK Awarding Organisation to offer a complete range of health and safety qualifications, to c.50,000 successful learners every year.

We are now looking to recruit a Senior Compliance Coordinator to support compliance-related activities in respect of Approved Centres as well as to coordinate and support the administration. 

We are looking for someone who is highly organised, proactive, confident and articulate, with the ability to work independently and as part of a busy team. You will have excellent verbal and written communication skills, with good attention to detail and an excellent telephone manner.

In this role, you will report directly to the Awarding Body Compliance Manager and form a part of the Qualifications team as British Safety Council. This role will be based mainly in our Hammersmith office, but may include some occasional travel to Approved Centres within the UK. 

Duties and key responsibilities

Support compliance-related activities in respect of Approved Centres 

Typical responsibilities:

  • Supporting the centre/qualification approval process

  • Conducting malpractice and maladministration reviews and investigations

  • Conducting Approved Centre monitoring visits as required

  • Completing the analysis of assessment records

  • Managing routine correspondence with Approved Centres and candidates on Compliance related matters

  • Drafting monthly internal reports

Co-ordinate the Awarding Organisation’s Regional Quality Assurers (RQAs)

Typical responsibilities:

  • Management of the RQA centre visit programme

  • Liaison between the RQAs and Approved Centres

  • Supporting the RQAs with routine matters such requests for information, drafting reports and processing forms/invoices

Support the administration of compliance-related activities

Typical responsibilities: 

  • Drafting Approved Centre visit and malpractice reports

  • Co-ordination of RQA invoices/records

  • Gathering Compliance-related data/information

  • Responding to enquiries from candidates, centres or colleagues regarding investigations

  • Completing clerical tasks related to candidate scripts/records

  • Gathering data for regulatory returns

  • Gathering evidence in response to internal/external audits 

Skills, qualifications and experience


  • Degree or equivalent qualification

  • Experience of working for an Awarding Organisation and/or the education and skills sector in a Compliance-related role

  • Strong interpersonal, written, verbal, numeracy, literacy and communication skills

  • Strong organisational skills and a proven ability to prioritise own workload effectively, work autonomously with tasks and follow through on own actions to deadlines

  • Evidence of working in an environment where there is a need to assimilate information quickly

  • Problem solving and analytical skills

  • A high level of attention to detail

  • Experience of working under pressure and to strict deadlines

  • Diplomacy/tact

  • Computer literate and with good keyboard skills


  • Experience of the Portico Quartz software system

  • Experience of Moodle-based software
