Summary of the role

The Chief Examiner/Senior Consultant will be part of the End-point Assessment development team. They will work closely with a sector specific Product Manager, who co-ordinates the development of all assessments for End-Point Assessment. The role will act as an initial contact for external consultants developing the assessment material, including assisting in any queries around using the in-house IT system. They will be responsible for reviewing all assessment materials for validity and reliability, deciding on whether to return the assessments to the author for more work, or pass them through to the next stage of review. The Senior Consultant will also assist in the commissioning of new materials.

The main accountabilities for the role are:

  • Planning and organising item commissioning in line with Product Manager requirements
  • Work with Product Managers in setting delivery schedules for the development of assessment materials. Be the initial contact for consultants while they are developing materials
  • Constructing test papers and reviewing test materials using in-house systems. Editing assessment items in accordance with agreed processes, ensuring house style and assessment principles are applied
  • Amending test materials at proofing and vetting stages
  • Utilising in-house item banking systems and online content authoring tools
  • Provide technical and process expertise related to the materials commissioning process and test materials production to external consultants
  • Ensuring clear and effective communication between the Product Manager and external consultants
  • Produce training documentation and deliver training to consultants, as required
  • Raise and resolve editorial queries with appropriate Product Managers in accordance with agreed processes
  • Identify, log and inform Product Managers of potential assessment incidents
  • Ensure a timely resolution of item-author queries, in line with IAO’s standards

Experience and Competencies:

  • Experience of awarding sector with a deep understanding of assessment and operational processes
  • Extensive sector experience and experience of writing and reviewing vocational sector assessments
  • Excellent organisational skills with an ability to plan and prioritise a heavy workload to meet deadlines
  • Excellent communication skills to build relationships with and influence a variety of internal stakeholders
  • Excellent understanding of and ability to adapt to different IT systems, including experience of training others to use new IT systems
