On 27th January, the Department for Education (DfE) published the draft Operational Plan for the Institute for Apprenticeships. The consultation on the plan will be open for a few weeks and will close on 27 February 2017. The draft plan provides details of the vision for the Institute, the quality assurance of apprenticeships and end-point assessment, leading the reforms to technical education and the implementation plan for the Institute.

On 23 January, the Government launched its industrial strategy green paper, "Building Our Industrial Strategy". This is the basis for a consultation that will run until 17 April 2017 which will seek views on the approach to building a modern industrial strategy, which will deliver an economy that works for everyone. The results from the first salary and benefit survey of the AO sector were launched during a fringe session at the FAB Conference on 21 October. 421 AO employees took part in the survey, so thanks to those that took the time to complete it. (more follows)

The much anticipated post-16 skills plan and the report of the independent panel on technical education (Sainsbury Review) have both been released today (8 July 2016). The Federation of Awarding Bodies (FAB) shares the desire for a “dynamic high quality technical option” but does not accept the premise that “we have a marketbased approach to qualifications, which has led to huge numbers of competing qualifications.” (more follows)
CCEA Regulation also sent Responsible Officers the new logo which reflects the change of name to CCEA Regulation. It also provided new guidance on the permitted use of the logo and an updated version of Additional Certificate Requirements. (more follows)
