Ofqual Portal

Ofqual Portal

Friday, 18 March 2016

On 17 March 2016, Kate Evans and Gary Audrain of Ofqual, who have been leading on the development of the Ofqual Portal, provided a useful webinar for FAB members on its progress and functionality, as well as the anticipated dates for the cutover from the Regulatory IT System (RITS) to the Portal. Some of the key points of interest included:

  • The Portal will be a ‘one-stop-shop’ for Ofqual’s interactions and communications with awarding organisations (AOs). Further functionality will be added to it after the initial launch to support this intention.
  • The communications function of the Portal will mean that the current bi-monthly newsletter that is emailed to AOs will cease.
  • A date of 31 December 2016 has been agreed for AOs to provide links to qualification specifications on the Portal.
  • The cutover from RITS has been delayed for a few weeks from 21 March to May 2016. This is to allow a realistic timescale for Ofqual to address technical issues.
  • RITS now contains a message to advise AOs that information relating to qualifications to be regulated in Wales should no longer (as from 17 March 2016) be entered onto RITS and should be entered onto the Qualifications Wales QiW system once it is launched on 1 April 2016 (see below).
  • In cutting over to the new Portal, Ofqual was clear that it will not migrate current RITS users, it will not migrate banked documents and it will not migrate work in progress (other than where a qualification is currently in the accreditation process).
  • A RITS archive will be available to Ofqual only and the old Register will be accessible for a short time (no longer than 3 months).
  • To support AOs there will be user guides and YouTube tutorials available. Ofqual is also considering whether a test site can be made available.
