I am Director of Operations and Responsible Officer for the Awarding Body for the Built Environment (ABBE).
ABBE evolved from the School of Computing, Engineering and Built Environment at Birmingham City University. ABBE was established as an organisation in 1997, offering qualifications in the building and construction industry. To date, ABBE remains a wholly owned subsidiary of Birmingham City University. This relationship offers ABBE a unique opportunity to explore the synergies between the different educational perspectives of the University and that of an Awarding Organisation.
I joined ABBE in 2014 as the Director of Operations and Responsible Officer. I lead on the direction of ABBE, setting organisational strategies and financial priorities. I have managed ABBE through a restructure and change of premises.
I have worked within the Awarding Organisation industry for over 25 years. My career within Awarding Organisations began in 1993 with RSA Examinations Board (later to become OCR), where I worked across many qualification types including GNVQs, Key Skills, National Diplomas and Apprenticeships.
I have worked in partnership with many organisations including Sector Skills Councils, Employers and charitable organisations to influence curriculum design and set appropriate and valid assessment types.
