Marianne Phillips, Non-Executive Director

Marianne Phillips is the Executive Director for Quality and Standards at Trinity College London (TCL).

TCL delivers c 800k qualifications worldwide across 67 countries in English Language, Music and the Performing Arts. Marianne is a member of the Executive Leadership Team and is also responsible for leading a diverse team involved in all aspects of quality and standards, including regulatory compliance, qualification validity, exam security, risk management, internal audit, malpractice investigations, centre validation, results reviews, appeals and complaints.

Marianne, however, started her career in the NHS and her route to education and awarding took an unusual path. Following an initial career as a specialist nurse in neonatal intensive care before moving into health service management, Marianne was appointed by Macmillan Publishers to head up the development and management of an innovative open learning education programme for nurses.

The programme, accredited by the Universities of Greenwich and York, proved to be ground- breaking, enabling thousands of enrolled, (practical) nurses to convert their qualification and progress their career; something that had been denied to them previously.

Marianne then moved into the awarding industry with roles at two professional/membership organisations which encompassed responsibly for their awarding organisations. At this time Marianne also served a term as a FAB Director to champion the requirements of more niche awarding organisations.

She has also served as a Non Executive Director/Trustee/Member for a number of AOs and currently serves as a member of the Governing Body/Committees for AAT, Future Quals and IWFM.
